NOS Nitrous System

Nos is a system which is use to enhance the power of an automotive by the introduction of Nitrous Oxide. The full name of NOS is Nitrous Oxide Systems. It is very commonly used by the races since 1970’s. Nitrogen oxide is one of the most powerful compounds of nitrogen. NOS system is generally fitted in the form of kit which is generally used for racing cars, jet skis and trucks. Working of NOS The NOS kit is generally started by hitting a single button and your engine start producing 50, 100, 150 or more additional horsepower. The concept of NOS is really very simple to understand. A simple internal combustion engine is designed to change one form of energy into other. The main source of energy in automotives is fuel. The combustion of fuel produces heat and pressure. It means, combustion of more fuel produces more energy and thrust, the more power that you can make. In other words, to make more power we need to be able to combust more fuel. The burning process requires two things, one is fuel and other is oxygen. As you know, the supply of oxygen plays an important role in burning process. Regardless of the manufacturers, every nitrous-oxide system accomplishes both (fuel and oxygen) the things. NOS simply puts more fuel into the engine by adding additional fuel nozzles or through the factory fitted fuel injectors. Inside the engine, nitrous oxide simply supply thrice the amount of oxygen which is required for the combustion of fuel because nitrous oxide contains 40% oxygen by weight. Introduction of NOS NOS is a combination of high-pressure lines, jets, bottle, nozzles and solenoids. A bottle contains the nitrogen oxide at a pressure of 1lb. The solenoid, which is an electronically controlled valve, gets the nitrogen oxide through a high-pressure line. The solenoid is open when it gets a signal of 12 volts, and nitrous oxide is then sent to the nozzle and into the engine. At this time, NOS also inject some additional fuel into the engine. The setup of solenoid and nozzle is often referred as wet system. There are two types of NOS are available in the market, one is known as Dry and other is known as computer controlled. In case of dry nitrous-oxide system, nitrous-oxide is supplied with the help of factory injectors. On the other hand, computer controlled valve increase the amount of time that the injectors are open to put more fuel into the engine. A well fitted nitrous-oxide system is hard to beat but an improperly installed nitrous-oxide system can also cause severe engine damage.
